Unite America Announces Leadership Transition

Nick Troiano will step down as the founding executive director of Unite America on March 1, 2027, after a decade building and leading the organization. Unite America’s Board will launch a national search for its next CEO.

“Building Unite America alongside our team, board members, donors, and partners over the last decade has been the most meaningful work of my life,” Troiano said. “Our work is bigger than any one individual or any one election, and I believe now is the right time to pass the baton. I have never had more conviction in our mission or confidence in our organization than I do today, and that is what gives me tremendous optimism about Unite America’s future.”

Over Troiano’s tenure, the philanthropic venture fund has invested more than $200 million to help build the election reform movement and secure over 50 state and local policy victories, giving millions of voters more voice, choice, and power in their elections.

“Nick has led Unite America with inspiring vision, entrepreneurial leadership, and exceptional dedication for the past decade,” said Unite America Co-Chairs Marc Merrill, Kathryn Murdoch, and Kent Thiry in a joint statement. “The Board is committed to Unite America’s strategy, confident in the team, and focused on finding the right leader to grow the scale and impact of the organization and the election reform movement over the years to come.”

Unite America’s Board has formed a search committee, co-chaired by Randy Peeler and Neal Simon, to lead the national search for its next CEO in partnership with Russell Reynolds Associates.

Unite America remains focused on its mission of winning nonpartisan election reform to foster a more representative and functional government, and committed to its long-term goals of enfranchising 16 million voters locked out of closed primaries and ultimately liberating 100 members of Congress from the constraints of party primaries.
